Hi there.
My name’s P.A. Cornell and I’m a Nebula, World Fantasy, and Aurora-nominated writer of speculative fiction. That means science fiction and fantasy, mostly, but now and then I write horror too. I also occasionally publish non-fiction.
My short stories have been published in several respected genre publications including Apex Magazine, Lightspeed Magazine, Fantasy Magazine, Augur, and more.
I’ve also had stories appear in multiple anthologies including, The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2024, and Year’s Best Canadian Fantasy & Science Fiction, Vol. 1, 2, and 3.
In addition to becoming the first ever Chilean writer nominated for a Nebula award in 2024 for my story, “Once Upon a Time at The Oakmont” (also a finalist for the Aurora and World Fantasy Awards), my short story “Splits” won Canada’s 2022 Short Works Prize for Fiction. That same year, Mocha Memoirs Press published my debut science fiction novella, Lost Cargo, which has since been listed as one of the best novellas of 2022 in Year’s Best Canadian Fantasy & Science Fiction, Vol. 1. I’ve also been long-listed for the BSFA Awards for my stories, “Things Most Meaningful,” “Bright Horizons,” “The Life You’ve Given Me, Rusty,” and “Through the Machine.”
I have two new books publishing in 2026 that you can read about here. The first is already out, and that’s my retro-futuristic novelette, SHOESHINE BOY & CIGARETTE GIRL, and the second my debut short fiction collection, THE ASTRONAUT AMONG THE FLOWERS, which comes out in August.
